So how is JazzReggae Festival going green?
- Using on-campus cogeneration energy plant to fuel the festival’s energy requirements. Click here to read why it’s so awesome.
- Using recycled paper and vegetable inks for flyers and printed materials while focusing primarily on viral advertising.
- Urging Vendors to cut down on using non-biodegradable Styrofoam and harmful products and providing incentives for use of green products.
- Providing a Recycling and on-site Waste Separation program including composting.
Save green by going green
There’s a bunch of simple changes you can make to save money, which could be put towards attending JazzReggae Festival!
- Change your incandescent light bulbs to COMPACT FLUORESECENT LIGHT BULBS! This bright idea may SAVE YOU upwards of ~$260.00 A YEAR. They also save energy, around 100 kilowatt-hours. Polar bears will thank you.
- Insulate your attic! Most heat in your house escapes upwards taking money with up and away with it. If you want to make this change visit this site from the Department of Energy (based on data from 2005). Estimate savings of ~$120.00 A YEAR.
- Heat your water at home with a tankless model. This heats water only when you need it. With an average initial cost of ~$700.00 you may save around ~$130.00 A YEAR. It would take about 6 years to recoup costs, but if energy prices increase then you’ll get your money back sooner.
- OR simply lower the temperature on your current water heating, for example from 145°F to an imperceptible 120°F for a savings of around ~$20.00 A YEAR with a gas water heater and ~$50.00 A YEAR with electric.
- Go SOLAR. Although initial costs can be in the tens of thousands, the government and the state offers rebates and incentives, which can result in a payback in approximately 6 years.
- Don’t make big investments like solar panels without taking care of the small things around the house that will make your home more energy efficient. Small changes like these make a huge impact on your energy bill.
- Caulk gaps along windows, and seal gaps around your home
- Weather-seal doors and openings
- Insulate your attic and empty spaces
- Have the government fund these changes! Visit this link now and save hundreds on making these green saving changes.
- Stay away from bottled water and drink tap or filtered water in a reusable water bottle. EPA regulated tap water is more strictly enforced than FDA regulated bottled water. It also costs around $1.00 a gallon for bottled water, and around $0.0001 per gallon for tap water.
Go green for your health
Simple changes not only keep money in the bank. They will keep you and yours healthy and happy.
- Ditch your car for walking, biking or public transportation. You’ll save carbon dioxide, money from gas, and improve your health.
- Drive slower to JazzReggae Festival, say 55mph instead of 65mpg. Save around 15% on your mileage and significantly reduce your polluting emissions. Also limit sudden braking and starting to decrease emissions.
- Eat less red meat. You will have a healthy heart and conscience for reducing water and CO2 consumption. Try one meal a week without it and then slowly decrease your intake over time. According to Creative Citizen, by doing this you can reduce CO2 emissions by around 3,000 pounds a year and save around 200,000 gallons of water a year.
Go green for the world
